ISP spying, etc…

Talked to Comcast today super ~casual~ like and got some interesting info, at least to me.

He said that they’re not going to be monitoring WHAT people download as they can’t, but rather how MUCH they download. Comcast is going to start sending letters at 10 gigs a month or so because your ‘unlimited bandwidth’ with them (and I’m guessing whoever else) is actually only unlimited up to a certain point. And then? He said this:

“Ten (10) gigs is a lot. To download ten (10) gigs, you’d basically have to be running a server out of your house. Really, though? At fourteen (14) is when they’re going to get seriously antsy.”

So, I looked through what I had and this is what I came up with: 10gigs at 350mb an ep is approximately 28 episodes of whatever per month (or 7 shows a week).

One of the world’s largest file-sharing sites was shut down Thursday, and its founder and several company executives were charged with violating piracy laws, federal prosecutors said.
An indictment accuses Megaupload.com of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. The indictment was unsealed one day after websites including Wikipedia and Craigslist shut down in protest of two congressional proposals intended to thwart online piracy.
